Seeking employment while squatting in Nigeria, I can say has its unique challenges and triumphs that come with the journey.
Living as a squatter in Nigeria meant facing a lot of obstacles in search for employment. Limited access to resources such as the internet and transportation makes it difficult to even begin the job search process. Squatters often found themselves relying on word-of-mouth recommendations and personal connections to learn about job opportunities.
The stigma attached to squatting added another layer of difficulty to a squatter job search. And many job vacancies may not come with accommodation, making it challenging to secure a safer space.
Squatters usually ended up with odd jobs in the informal sector, such as factories, foods and beverages hawking or manual labor, to make ends meet while continuing to search for more stable employment opportunities. It becomes a constant balancing act between earning enough to survive and pursuing long-term career goals, if a squatter has one.
Networking can help in the job search process. Squatters can reached out to friends, family members, and acquaintances for leads and referrals, leveraging every connection they could to expand their job search network. Through perseverance and persistence, some squatters do eventually land jobs that offers stability and growth potential.
The journey from squatting to employment is not easy, but it can incredibly rewarding. Securing meaningful employment provides financial stability and a sense of pride and accomplishment. A squatter needs to make determination to overcome adversity and build a better future for himself.
Remember, there are lessons that need to be learned and the strength gained along the way.
